I don't know if this is coincidence, but this message showed up on Ornith-L on
21 January, from someone named Joyce, last name possibly Greenway:
"I need to educate myself about the process beginning to end of reintroducing
a locally extinct bird (Bewick's Wren) back into habitat that is reported to still
be suitable for it -- happens to be the Antietam Creek watershed in
Washington County, MD. Is there a DNR or other website that covers this
process [in depth]? Booklet that I could refer to?
And I would love to hear from any one of you who may have actually
accomplished this and read about your experience with it.
Thanks,
Joyce"
The address given was
No one has responded on Ornith-L. I wrote to explain about permits and such,
but also to suggest that she do more research on the habitat issue, given
what the BNA and other reports say about the decline of the Bewick's Wren in
the East (essentially what Greg B. and others have said). I never heard back
from her. I do wonder if this inquiry is somehow related to Mary's inquiry? Does
anyone know anything about a plan to try to reintroduce Bewick's Wren to this
area? |
