Today at Ocean City there were five Common Eiders at OC inlet, and a Lesser
Black-backed Gull on the far jetty. Several Northern Gannets were offshore.
Lots of loons, of both persuasions. Shorebirds included many Purple
Sandpipers and Ruddy Turnstones and several American Oystercatchers on the
jetties. One Forster's Tern was also present, and a Great Cormorant. Brant
were numerous. A flock of flyby Dunlin was added from the parking lot at
Hooper's, along with many more Brant and oystercatchers. West OC Pond was
overrun with Canvasbacks; the only other Aythya was a single Redhead. A few
Ruddy Ducks, Northern Shovelers, and Gadwall were also seen. The Eagle's
Nest golf course pond had its single adult male Eurasian Wigeon among the
hordes of American Wigeon. Field Sparrows, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and an
Eastern Phoebe were checked off along the road back from the golf course.
