      Now that I am almost done with my winter counts the weather is finally 
seasonable.    Took my 7th Old River Rd count (aka Hunting Quarter Rd) 
Tuesday (1-30).  Highlights were 13 Winter Wrens, 4 Eastern Phoebes, 4 
Hermit Thrushes, 13 Eastern Bluebirds and
3 mockingbirds.  The latter two species have been more conspicuous on the 
past two counts with the colder weather.  Although they are common this year 
I also had my first Red-headed Woodpecker on this count.  On my way back 
through the fields I had another 3 Winter Wrens and 2 Hermit Thrushes.
      Robins, Cedar Waxwings and Myrtle Warblers have been scarce this 
winter.  I usually see a few robins and myrtles on the counts.  Checking the 
Red Cedars along River Rd I found that very few of them have berries which 
accounts in large part for this scarcity.
