After spending the morning birding the Ocean City area, Dave Brenneman and I headed north to see if we could locate the Northern Shrike that we missed last week at Prime Hook NWR. While looking for the Shrike without success, we came across two local birders, Ed Sigda and Chris Bennett, who immediately put us on to the Shrike. They say he's easy to find once you know how to look for him. There are three similar fields at Prime Hook that are starting to be overgrown; high grass, low bushes and short, scrubby trees. One is behind the recycling area, the second is halfway between the recycling area the 90 degree turn in the road on the left side of the road and the third is at the 90 turn on the left side of the road. Scan the tops of the bushes and scrubby trees. He moves around a lot. Ed and Chris say they bird Prime Hook frequently and have found him every time in one of these fields.
