Yesterday morning, from 8:30 to 10:30, we went to the spot Kevin Graff showed us - the Old Picnic grounds at Loch Raven and then we walked up closer to bridge number 2. We saw a total of 23 species, the most wonderful being a spectacular view of a male Golden Crowned Kinglet in the pines just past the mulch piles. Saw 4 or 5 American Widgeons, a clump of about 7 Golden Eyes mixed in with a lot of Hooded Mergansers on the lake in an ice free spot. most of the lake seems to be frozen - maybe 75%.
At my back yard feeders today in Baltimore City: 15 House Finches, 3 Cardinals, 3 Titmice, 2 Black Capped Chickadees, 5 Goldfinches, 1 Mockingbird, 1 Starling, 3 Crows, 5 Doves, 1 White Breasted Nuthatch, 3 White Throated Sparrows, 1 Blue.
We haven't had any Juncos this winter - is that normal for Baltimore?
Peace,
