Hi All,

Today I birded with Jim Brighton, while the Red-necked Grebe invasion hasn't
started, we still managed to find a few nice things. Red-shouldered Hawks
were the most common raptor which is unusual on the shore, we had 8, 4 in
Wicomico, and 4 in Somerset. Since most of the water is frozen, we looked in
several places for Common Merganser in Somerset County. We tried both the
Wicomico and the Pocomoke Rivers without any luck. We did find a large
Canada Goose flock south of Fruitland, in Somerset, that had 2 Snow Geese
and a Richardson's Goose which were both county birds for us that we have
been looking for a while. We had three Snipe along Reading Ferry Road, as
well as a Hermit Thrush and a Catbird. Deal Island produced a Bittern. At
Rumbly Point the highlights were a Short-eared Owl and Jim going ass deep in
the marsh, the latter made up for not finding any Nelson's Sparrows. All in
all a good day.

Good Birding,

Hans
