Folks
House locked today w/ the wet weather, I took a few minutes to watch the feeders in our Waldorf, Charles Co., MD yard. The highlight was two females and three male Rusty Blackbirds. Other species of note were a single Hermit Thrush, a Fox and Song Sparrow.
The Rusties came in w/ the hordes of Red-wings, Common Grackles, and European Starlings. The Fox Sparrow shared the feed w/ three Eastern Towhees, many Juncos, and a handful of White-throated Sparrows. The usual suspects were also in feeding, but no less then twenty Northern Cardinals are currently outside. I guess I need to get some more Black-oiled Sunflower seed tomorrow.
Yesterday I had a male Sharp-shinned Hawk feeding late. So far today I have missed his presence. Thursday a first year Bald Eagle was annoying a Red-shouldered Hawk passing over. You would think there would be enough space up there for both of them.
I like most at Ocean City yesterday got close photos of the Thick-billed Murre. What a treat to see a beautiful pelagic and not have to get seasick.
Feed the birds.
