The halfway-thawed beaver pond visible from Race Rd.
near Elkridge had lots of activity yesterday and today
during my lunch hour. Highlights over both days:

wood duck (8 to 10 yesterday, mostly male)
gadwall
black duck (pair)
great blue heron
belted kingfisher
Cooper's hawk
Red-tailed hawk (pair)

I will be on the lookout for woodcock in the adjacent
field the next few weeks. The bulldozers of UMBC will
surely cause some of Stan and Charlie's WC to display
elsewhere. Glad to hear some have returned already.

The Race Road areas mentioned above are part of PV
State Park. If you go, park on the gravel lot by the
fire hydrant and never on the housing side of the
road!
