A Brewers is a great find and wonderful surprise! I have looked and looked for
one among our many feeder "hoodlums", but have yet to see one here. We
have had a drop in the number of blackbirds/cowbirds/grackles at the feeders
this week (down to less than 100 had a time!), but I hope the mention of this
does not jinx me!

Yesterday morning at 6:25 out back, there were two WINTER WRENS having a
singing duel - it was great! They are often around here in winter but I don't
see them routinely, and they're secretive so I hear them even less. Usually if
I do it is in the evening, right before dusk, and not nearly as enthusiastic (long
or loud) as what I heard yesterday. The two birds were about 150-200 feet
apart and belting out each song with gusto. The duel lasted about 5 minutes
and then they took a sudden break, but I had to go and don't know if they
resumed. For such a small bird they can really wail!

Cheers-
