With light ESE winds forecast for night of Feb 28/early morning Mar 1, I
put out my recording gear for the 1st time this year to see if I could
detect any migrants.
For the most part calls were few and far between, 2 Killdeer, a distant
flock of Tundra Swans, a small group of Canadian Geese, and a Fish Crow
(at 12:55 AM - weird).
However, I also detected a number of calls from Ring-billed Gulls.
First at 12:12 AM, a few birds passed fairly close to my house. I
detected 8-9 additional(but more distant) calls through 4 AM.
Anybody know if RB Gulls migrate at night, as well as day? I searched
the internet and came up with nothing regarding diurnal vs nocturnal
movements. Cornell's BNA Online identifies late Feb as start of
migration for RB Gulls.
Thanks for any help.
