Last night amidst the chorus of Spring Peepers I heard an
unfamiliar buzzing noise. Later, as I checked MDOSPREY
messages for the day, I realized that what I had heard
might've been a woodcock. Tonight I went out at almost
6:30pm to check and not only heard the "peent" calls but
saw it's aerial display! The first time I quickly lost sight of
it (6:30pm is probably darker than would be desired), but
the second time (after a dozen or more additional peent
calls) was able to watch it's whole flight before it settled
down at the edge of the field. I then ran back home to
bring the kids and show them but it was too late I guess.

Good Birding everyone,

p.s. Also, a note about Killdeer... I've recently realized
that the resident mockingbird around here does a pretty
good killdeer imitation. I did however see 7 of them on
Thursday in Laurel.
