I had a brief trip to Morgan Run NEA this morning, shortened by circumstances. My first Killdeer of the spring was one that flew over calling. I saw at about four Fox Sparrows, at least one singing. I'm sure there were more. While scanning through a thicket looking for more I saw two ear tufts. They were attached to a Long-eared Owl. A few seconds later I spotted another nearby. I managed to get at least a dozen Carroll County people to see the birds. I doubt they will be present tomorrow but I will check in the morning. They were in a fairly exposed area visible from a trail and there were dog trials going on in addition to the usual hikers and horseback riders.
