Today I was surprised to find and photograph a pair of Hooded Mergansers and
a pair of Wood Ducks. The location was on a slough approximately 9/16th
mile East-North-East of the corner where Cacuts Hill Road departs from Bryan
Point Road. Bryon Point Road is a right turn off Indian Head Highway (MD
210) in Accokeek, Maryland. As far as I know, the slough has no name, but
you might find a "Boy Named Sue" there.

On a map of the Potomac River, the slough is roughly half way between Bryon
Point and Mockley Point. About 1/4 mile East of the Cacuts Road/Bryon Point
Road intersection is a right turn ( to the North) into a very small gravel
parking lot. From there, going further East, then North is a gravel road
which travels about 1/4 mile to another small parking lot at a dead end,
near the river. From there, a wooden boardwalk is about 100 yards East.
The ducks were in the slough that is crossed by the boardwalk. I actually
saw them from a raised platform that is roughly 100 yards up the slough to
the Sourt-East.

The location is on land managed by the National Park Service and is known as
Piscatsway Park. No fees are required.

Photographs will be posted on my web site. They will appear in the third
album (for NEW items). The web site can be found at:
