A gorgeous sunset (at my back for a change) provided
perfect light this evening to view the following at
Halethorpe ponds between the Patapsco River and the
Balto. tunnel thruway:

10+ common merganser
3 hooded merganser
15+ gadwall
6 mallard
2 Am. wigeon
1 lesser scaup
1 bald eagle
50+ ring-billed gull
3 DC comorant
50+ Canada goose (some with shortish necks?)
5,000+ common grackle and assorted (unknown)
blackbirds
It seemed like a flock of about 300-500 flew over
every few minutes, all heading north.
3 Am. woodcock, one airborne. (these were in the same
area reported by Stan A. or Charlie C. the last 2
years. Near the smaller pond and adjacent to the
chain link fence that keeps animals off of the
highway.)
2 killdeer put on a better show than the AW just
before I called it quits.

Cheers,
