What a perfect way to bid farewell to winter, driving
north to the frozen tundra of Carroll County, having
dedicated nature-lovers (Bob and Jerry) walk me to a
long-eared lifer and bonus birds such as the fox
sparrow and hermit thrush. Then drove south to balmy
Elkridge to witness last night's ice disappear in the
afternoon sun. Black ducks and beavers swam circles
in celebration.

Bob, the owl was amazing, but a special thanks for
convincing me to wait until summer before twitching to
Lily Ponds for the least bittern!
