I stopped by the Lapidum Boat Launch area in Susquehanna State Park at 4:20
this afternoon. The first bird I saw was an American Pipit at the edge of
the parking area. At the other end of the parking lot at the actual boat
launch, I saw 2 more on the rocks. As I was leaving, I saw another at the
other end of the parking lot. This could have been the first one I saw, but
there were at least 3 there.
Other birds there were about 100 Tree Swallows down river and several dozen
Bonaparte's Gull all over the river.
On the way home, on Craigs Corners Road between Stafford Road and the
pumping plant, I saw another American Pipit on the icy hillside. A little
further along were 2 Eastern Phoebes. As I was looking at those, another
American Pipit came into view but it could have been the one I had just seen.
It looks like American Pipits are on the move today.

The eagle looked down on the river below
And he wrapped his wings round him and he fell like a stone
And the big salmon fought but the talons held true
And he shuddered as the world turned from silver to blue
