I went to Back River this morning and was able to located one adult Little Gull
among the large number of Bonaparte's Gulls. I viewed the gull with
approximately 140 Bonies on the river behind the Royal Farm. The bird was
flying back and forth over the water, and the black underwing, and light gray
upperwing was easily seen. Barry Cooper also stopped by and saw the gull as
well before it disappeared (probably further up the river). By the time I left
this location, there were over 200 Bonies, 4 Great Black-backed Gulls, about
10 Ringers, and 2 Herring Gulls on the water and piers.
I then went to Diamond Point. There were even larger numbers of gulls here.
Barry had seen a perched Little Gull here (possibly the same one I spotted),
but I was unable to locate the Little Gull here on my stop. The gulls were
more distant, and not really flying around. Approximate totals at this location
included over 600 Bonies, over 200 Ring-billed Gulls, and small numbers of
Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls.
