We spent a cloudy and quiet late morning Monday at the park. In addition to
our target species, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, we had other '07 firsts:
CHIPPING SPARROW (didn't need to leave the car for these), BROWN CREEPER
(2), WINTER WREN (finally!), and BROWN THRASHER.

A state first for us was a pair of BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS. Other recent
arrivals were numerous PINE WARBLERS and EASTERN PHOEBES and a flock of
NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS.

the list:

Horned Grebe (bay)
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose
Wood Duck
Mallard
Bufflehead (bay)
Turkey Vulture
Black Vulture
Bald Eagle
Red-shouldered Hawk
Mourning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Red-headed Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Eastern Phoebe
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Blue Jay
American Crow
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Brown Creeper
Carolina Wren
Winter Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Eastern Bluebird
Brown Thrasher
Pine Warbler
Chipping Sparrow
Song Sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird
Brown-headed Cowbird
American Goldfinch

A quick pass through Solomon's found nothing unusual except for the number
of AMERICAN COOTS (scores). There were many LESSER SCAUP, some
BUFFLEHEADS and MALLARDS, two LONG-TAILED DUCKS, three SURF SCOTERS
on the river, and five or six HORNED GREBES across the street.
