I stepped out my suburban front door about 7 PM, lured outside by the
sound of spring peepers and wondering if a Woodcock might show up with
dusk approaching, something I saw only once over my yard.
Instead I saw a large bird flying north, fairly low. At first I assumed
it was a gull, but then as it got closer I saw it had gracefully smooth
angles on its long, swept-back wings and a narrow tapering, rounded
tail. It was gliding, and flapping a little, but moving quite fast.
Oh... a Peregrine Falcon! A very nice surprise.
