The circuit hike seemed to be disappointingly sparse of birds-- well, there were plenty of woodpeckers: the pileateds' call rang through the bottomlands, and a single Hairy called. 6 wood ducks in the pond the beavers have created. One Louisiana waterthrush sang nearby. Lots of toothwort, spring beauty and bloodroot Not a single butterfly.

However, 6 or 8 wild turkeys clucked to each other as they climbed a laurel-covered hillside. Pine warblers continue to trill.

On my return to the parking area I heard my first chipping sparrow,
  and a yellow-throated warbler.
