Apologies in advance if this message appears more than
once. Apparently Yahoo has been having some issues in
the last couple of days with repeaters.

I swung through Solomons this morning following up on
a lead from Bill Moody who saw a couple of Northern
Shovelers down river from the Solomons pier. I didn't
find any but in the cove across from Our Lady Star of
the Sea, there were approximately 60 AMERICAN COOTS.
Numbers of other waterfowl have dropped off with
lingering scaup of both varieties and BUFFLEHEADS but
the shocker was a dozen SURF SCOTERS near the pavilion
mid-island. Near the CBL pier, I found 3 more Surf
Scoters as well as one BLACK SCOTER. In all of my
years of birding along the Patuxent, I've never seen
more than one or two scoters together except closer to
Pax NAS. On the Chesapeake that's more the norm.

I saw no gannets anywhere on the river.
