After doing the "Smoky and the Bandit" lap at SWAP in Baltimore that I
mentioned in my last post, I convinced Fiona to go on an impromtu trip to
Blackwater NWR.
RWBB's were as prolific as ants at a picnic, as were Osprey, GBH and Bald
Eagles. The Dorchester County column in my yellow book has more red marks on
it than a butcher's apron.
My goal was to spot an American Bittern, alas- I got skunked. Nothing like
scanning ohragmites for a couple of hours to make the floaties in my eyes
swim around like angry plankton. I did catch glimpses or a Kestrel, Northern
Harrier, and several Lesser Yellowlegs and Green-winged Teal. The highlight
was a Short-eared Owl posing on a post, and giving a nice goodbye flyby on
our way out of the refuge.
As usual- I tried to document as much as I could through the wonders of
technology: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattyfioner/
...and feel free to correct me if anything is mislabled
Have a great weekend, and HAPPY BIRDING!!!
