Today, in our annual rite of spring, my husband and I "raised the purple
martin house" near the pond at Belmont. I had martins two summers ago, but
last year I only had one nest of starlings (which were evicted, of course)
and one nest of Eastern Bluebirds. I know that several regular MDOsprey
readers go birding at Belmont, so I must warn you that I did attach one
"decoy" on the southeast side of the martin house.
I was happy to see my first Tree Swallows for the season. One pair has
already placed two goose feathers inside one of my bluebird houses.
