I spent about 4 hours this afternoon at the Little Patuxent Oxbow Lake Nature
Preserve. It was great because around every turn there seemed to be
something new or different. As time wore on, the weather turned progressively
nicer, too. I encountered a mixed flock of warblers three times as I made my
way to the southern cove of the lake. Here's what I saw:
Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Turkey Vulture
Black Vulture
Canada Goose
Trumpeter Swan #960
Wood Duck (1m only)
Mallard
Green-winged Teal (~18)
Ring-necked Duck
Red-shouldered Hawk (4 flying/mating)
American Coot
Killdeer (2)
Greater Yellowlegs (2)
Wilson's Snipe
Belted Kingfisher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
Easter Phoebe
Blue Jay
American Crow
Fish Crow
Tree Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Carolina Chickadee (2 going in/out of woodpecker holes)
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Winter Wren
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
American Robin
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Pine Warbler
Palm Warber
Song Sparrow
Swamp Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Red-winged Blackbird
Talked to 2 people fishing and they said they've been catching Black Crappie
and were told there were large mouthed bass in the lake, too.
