Around 5:15 this afternoon I was standing on Brighton
Dam looking northwest, when I spied a group of birds
over the water far away. The birds careened from one
side of the lake to the other, crossing from Howard
back to Montgomery as they drew closer to the dam.
All of birds I studied through binoculars (about half
of the group) were Bonaparte's Gulls, and I believe
all 33 of these birds were Bonaparte's Gulls. They
flew quickly over the dam, heading downriver (south).

About a minute and a half later I noticed a similar
group of birds off in the distance. These 40 birds
drew closer and closer, again going from one side of
the lake to the other as they flew quickly downriver.
One of the first four birds was a Ring-billed Gulls;
all the other birds I studied (about 20 to 25) through
binoculars appeared to be Bonaparte's Gulls. I
believe that the whole flock bar the one Ringbill was
probably Bonaparte's Gulls.
