The thermometer on my car said 36 degrees at 7:20, but there was a thin
film of ice on some of the puddles. There were a lot of birds around
until about 9:30, but most of them were full-time or winter residents.
The best were a spectacular view of a RC Kinglet flashing his ruby
crown, close enough to touch (but I didn't try), a couple of
gnatcatchers (my FOY), and a raven (flyover, croaking). Also had my FOY
cowbirds and Tree Swallows (but no Barn Swallows).
Kingsley Trail on the west side of MD121 has been closed for several
weeks, with a sign saying "Park Closed". (The birds seem to be taking
that literally - almost no birds seen or heard in the approx 1/4 mile I
walked there.) Can anybody tell me the reason for the closing?
