As soon as I saw Wendel Landes' posting this morning, I grabbed the dog
(I owed her a walk, anyway) and headed over to Lake Artemesia in College
Park. I found a total of 6 COMMON LOONS - 2 in the northern part of the
lake and 4 more in the southern part. They were still there when I left at
noon. I was very pleased because I really needed a loon for my county
list. Thanks, Wendel!

Other noteworthy birds included:

Ruddy Duck - 9
Red-tailed Hawk - 1 immature
Osprey - 1
Caspian Tern - 1
Tree Swallow - many
CLIFF SWALLOW - 1 (my FOY)
N. Rough-winged Swallow - 2 or 3
Barn Swallow - 4
CHIMNEY SWIFT - 1 (my FOY)

The tern was flying with a good-sized fish in its bill. As I watched,
it deftly flipped the fish around and swallowed it, while still in flight.
