Anybody who wasn't out somewhere this weekend just got left behind in the
race for life enjoyment. Yesterday we dropped in on the very mobile 'sit' at
Lilyponds. We missed a lot of what was being seen but we got the Bonaparte's
Gull, A Moorhen, a Parula, heard Waterthrush, some female Common Mergansers,
an Osprey, Red-shouldered Hawk and a small rail that scooted into some reeds
before I could get much on it. A Virginia's was listed on the board, but I
was thinking Sora when I saw it.
On the ride home we got a nice look at a Barred Owl sitting in a small
tree in a sparsely vegetated area that was likely a field not along ago -
odd spot for one. Particularly in early afternoon.
This AM at Morgan Run:
Brown Thrashers - never out of earshot
Eastern Towhees - ditto
Field Sparrows - see above
Ruby Crowned Kinglet - with the ruby part on display
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers - down by the creek
Northern Harrier - my 3rd one there in recent months. Resident?
Tree Swallows - much more numerous than Bluebirds
Usual Suspects - plentiful
Hopefuls - zip on the Blue-winged and Prairie Warblers I was hoping for.
Tonight eating dinner on the patio:
Ruby crowned kinglet next to our shed in an Azalea
White-throated Sparrows - has anybody other than Bonnie Ott noticed how
"exquisite" they are in April? They really color up nice before they go home
for the summer.
