Greetings,
I had a few free hours yesterday morning; so I took advantage of the weather
and birded Susquehanna State Park from 8AM to around 11AM. Spring
migration is definitely on. It was nice to see the trees beginning to bud and
hear the spring chorus really starting to pick up. Almost constantly, I was
within earshot of Northern Parulas (5), Louisiana Waterthrush (2), Eastern
Phoebe (2), Prothonatary Warbler (3), Palm Warbler (20 Yellow & 5 Western),
Pine Warbler (1), Myrtle Warbler (15), and of course the myriad of residential
birds. Also of note were at least 15 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and a some-what
impressive raptor flight which included 5 Broad-winged, 3 Sharpies, A Red-
tailed, a Red- Shouldered, and a Kestrel (of course Ospreys were abundant as
well). One other bird of note included an unidentified Empid sp. was not calling
and the very brief look that I got of it suggested Least going on its GISS; but,
as I mentioned my view of it was extremely quick and it was not singing.
-Almost forgot a Barred-Owl answered my screech-owl imitation at around
10AM near the old mill.
-Sure I am forgetting something. Oh well...
Good Birding,
Chris Starling
