MDOsprey:

Results of the Yellow Rail run:

1. Elliotts Island Road (Dorchester County)

On Monday night, 4/23, Paul O'Brien, Norm & Fran Saunders, and I did
Elliotts Island Road in search of Yellow Rails between 8:30 pm and
12:30 am. The temp was 67 degrees in the marsh but it was windy at
our locations, in the range of 10 to 20 mph. Mosquitoes are not out yet.

We dipped on Yellow Rails but did hear:

19 Virginia Rails,

as well as

2 Marsh Wrens
many Willets
some Greater Yellowlegs
a Black Duck
Canada Geese
a Black-crowned Night-Heron
probably, a Black-necked Stilt

2. Rumbly Point Road (Somerset County)

Carol Broderick and seven others from the Tricounty Bird Club covered
Rumbly Point Road after their club meeting. They were out until about
11 pm. No Yellow Rails, but they did have several Clapper Rails.
Carol indicated that the wind was probably not as much as a factor
for them as it was for us.

3. Williams Point (Somerset County)

Jennifer Elmer of Pocomoke City already reported in a separate
MDOsprey message that she and her dad covered Williams Point
(Somerset County) from about 6 pm to 9 pm and had about 6+ Clapper
Rails and 6 King Rails.

[From NJ Michael O'Brien reported hearing a Yellow Rail Sunday night
at Jakes Marsh, NJ.]

Cover those marshes!!! Yellow Rails are probably still good for the
next couple of weeks.

Phil
