Slower than I hoped today after last night's winds, but the
sun never really came out. A few birders about, and some
new migrants: BLUE-HEADED VIREO, WOOD THRUSH, OVENBIRD, and
SCARLET TANAGER (all seen and heard, apart from the
Ovenbirds which were heard only). The only other warblers I
saw were PALM and YELLOW-RUMPED (someone else had a few
Black-throated Green). My full report:
Location name: Rock Creek Park
Observation type: Stationary Count
Observation date: 4/24/07
Start time: 6:15 AM
Duration: 3 hour(s) 20 minute(s)
Number of people in party: 1
Comments: Overcast to mostly cloudy, warm, almost no
wind. I was hoping it would be more lively after last
night's SW winds, but the sun barely came out this morning.
New migrants: Wood Thrush (heard & seen), Scarlet Tanager
(male, heard & seen), Blue-headed Vireo (heard & seen),
Overbird (heard only). One unidentified swallow and a brief
glimpse of a small brown wren (Winter?). May have seen
Pileated Woodpecker. Others reported Yellow-billed Cuckoo,
Black-throated Green Warbler, and a possible Baltimore
Oriole. Also saw a pair of White-tailed Deer and heard some
frogs.
