My wife Marcia, watched a SANDHILL CRANE take off from the farm field behind our house and fly past her at close range very low as it headed west (toward Poolesville). Yard bird number 136!  Marcia was standing in our back yard at the time of the sighting. Seen today,  Monday April 30, between 10 AM and 2 pm.  Our yard is located 1 mile west of Route 112 Seneca Road, one mile south of MD Route 28.  I searched the field after I got home but alas(!) did not relocate the bird.  Birders around Poolesville golf course / Partnership Road, where cranes have been seen several years, should watch for it. Good birding! - Don Simonson,Darnestown, Montgomery Co. MD
