Hi Everyone,
Went on Saturdays birdwalk at Patterson Park in Baltimore Citys Highlandtown
area . Thanks to leaders Dave Curson and Keith Costley for making this an
enjoyable walk. With something like 30 participantswe covered half the park
and found some 50 birds to my count . Though i do not want to list the birds
cause i know i will not be accurate.
Some of the highlights were Rosebreasted grosbeak (my first )giving good
clear views sitting in bare tree at the top side of the park. Merlin (my first )
found sitting in a tree by a birder from the neighborhood who was just
scanning the trees. Yellow warbler hanging low to the ground in the small trees
at the top of the fishing lake. The 5 Blackcrowned night herons also roosting in
a small tree at the top of the lake. Palm warbler, Prairie warbler ,Spotted
sandpiper, Scarlet tanager, Orchard oriole were other highlights . After the
walk i birded with Keith and he found me my first Whitecrowned sparrow
hanging in the fenced in garden area. We located him about four times and
finally got a picture of him. We then went to the Inner Harbor and sat in some
chairs and waited for the Peregrine Falcon . After a wait of 15 minutes we
seen the bird fluttering around the top of the Legg Mason building till he finally
landed on top of the O . We watched him for about 15 minutes and then left
him there still sitting on the O. Making that a 3 falcon day . Cool
