Hi, All

We had a lovely day yesterday going from Rock Creek Park to Kenilworth
Aquatic Gardens and then on to Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, but I'll report on
Merkle because it was especially productive.

Here are some of the highlights:

grasshopper sparrow
6 male bobolinks
2 spotted sandpipers
3 solitary sandpipers
1 beautiful male hooded warbler that serenaded just in front of us
(near the bridge by Mattaponi Creek)
prothonotary warbler - also a male and also serenading
2 Louisiana waterthrushes
1 northern waterthrush
several northern parula warblers
several bald eagles
1 hermit thrush
1 scarlet tanager (heard only)
1 great crested flycatcher

The Mounds trail is a good birding trail and one that we have found to be
reliable for hooded warblers, prothonotaries, and blackpolls (in a few weeks).

Good birding!
