Hummers at last!

All the hummingbird reports over the past few days have had me pretty
discouraged,
and I've been watching the feeder on and off while working from home
all day today,
with no luck, but about ten minutes ago I was delighted to see first one,
then two, now three hummingbirds! I have two females and a male (the first
male at our feeder, as far as I know).

One of the females is clearly the Alpha; she flew to the feeder, took
a quick drink,
and perched there with her head swiveling back and forth and up and down,
on guard. She lights out after the second female and chases the male, but not
with the same zest, so I hope there will soon be hummingbird babies out there.

Wouldn't it be a total kick if these two females are the same ones who fought
over the feeder all last summer? Maybe they chased each other all the way
north.

I suppose it makes sense that I'm the last one in Cecil County to see them,
since you can't go much further north or east without going out of state.

I hope they enjoy the red azalea out front--it just bloomed today. Coincidence
or perfect timing?!
