Migration at the National Arboretum this morning was light, but there
were a few good birds moving through.

Warblers were mostly in the Azalea Gardens: Northern Parula,
Black-throated Blue Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-throated Green
Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler,
Ovenbird. I heard the Cerulean Warbler on the south side of Mt.
Hamilton. Other birders drew my attention to the song. After listening
to it for some time, I concur with their initial identification as a
Cerulean.

The Arboretum's full complement of tyrant flycatchers are back: Eastern
Wood-Pewee, Acadian Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe, Great Crested
Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird.

Other migrants: Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Northern Rough-winged Swallow,
Barn Swallow, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher, Wood Thrush, Blue-gray
Gnatcatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Red-eyed Vireo, Scarlet Tanager,
Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, Bobolink, Baltimore Oriole, Orchard Oriole.

The Blue Grosbeak was deep in the lilac field near Fern Valley. The
Bobolink was singing from the top of a baldcypress near the Capitol columns.

Good birding,

John Beetham
