I am real tired. So I will make this short and sweet. Volney Ford and I spent
the night birding Elliott's Island last night and the Assateague Island ORV zone
this am. My high lights were ORV, 120 Whimbril plus,Piping Plover, Common
Tern, many Gannets almost on the beach, Both Loons, and 4 Lesser-
blackbacked Gulls.
At the Park area, where they hold the big sit,we had and I photographed a
Sharp-tailed Sparrow. Now that I have the photos home, I am still having
trouble with the id of this bird. I was certain I had a Nelson's. Volney was
thinking along the line of Salt marsh which would be more likely. I am still not
convinced of either. His points are valid. The song to me is still Nelsons. It
was flat and very dry. I think that Salt marsh is slighly more musical. Closer in
tone to Seaside.
The Chucks and Rails were on and off active last night at Elliotts Island. It
was real cold. We ended up with Lots of Virginias and Clappers. No Blacks.
George. Let me know and I can send you a picture of the Whimbrils. Ha.
