Today (5/11) there was an interesting mix of birds at Carroll Park in Baltimore
City. They were observed from the bike path near the golf course along
Washington Blvd. First up were a Pileated Woodpecker which I’ve never seen
in this area and a female Blue Grosbeak that I’ve seen once before. Next were
the warblers: several Blackpolls and Parulas, American Redstarts, an adult and
a young male, and singles of Prairie, Common Yellowthroat, Ovenbird, Northern
Waterthrush and Hooded. This is a good place for Warbling Vireos, Orchard
and Baltimore Orioles; all were singing constantly. Finally, a male Scarlet
Tanager added a touch of brilliant color.
