Folks

I did the Nanjemoy (N) area and Allen's Fresh (AF) sections in Charles County during the North American May count on Saturday. Highlights were

American Bittern - N flying toward marsh on Maryland Point Rd.
Tundra Swan - 2 birds at AF
26 Osprey - N The Nanjemoy Environmental Educational Center had 16 alone. This is truly a success story for EPA banding DDT.
Bald Eagles - 8 both locations.
1 American Kestrel - Windmill Point on the way to AF. We should put up a nest box on this farm. Two years in a row during breeding season birds have been here.
10 Northern Bobwhite - all at AF
Greater Yellowleg - one at AF
Lesser Yellowlegs - two at AF
Least Sandpiper - 10 at AF
Dunlin - 2 at AF
Barn Owl - AF; I have not counted the young yet
Eastern Screech Owl - N
Barred Owl 1 - N
Red-headed Woodpecker 1+ - nest on Rt. 224 near Thorne Gut in N.
Yellow-throated Vireo 12 - N
Marsh Wren 4 - AF
Swainson's Thrush one calling bird - N
Female Black-throated Blue Warbler - N
Blackpoll singing - Baptist Church Rd. - N
Wilson's Warbler male along Adams Willet Rd. N
Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2 - Nanjemoy
Eastern Meadowlark 1 - Hancock Run Rd. N

Gwen had a good number of migrants in the north and center part of the county but she can file her own report later if she has time.

Go birding.
