Hi Everyone,

I'm excited to say that my five-minute check for night migrants tonight was rewarded by at least two, possibly three, LEAST BITTERNs calling as the flew over my house in Pasadena (just south of Fort Smallwood). The flight calls of the birds sound like a miniature Black-crowned Night-heron (I'd describe it as "wuk"), but with more of the expected quality of Least Bittern. I have never heard these calls before; however, after recently discussing the flight call of this species with Matt Hafner, and based on experience with other vocalizations of this species, I'm pretty confident of the ID.

Migrants were nearly everywhere around Fort Smallwood today:

My yard, while drinking coffee in the morning:

YB Cuckoo--1
Red-eyed Vireo--1
Yellow Warbler--1
Magnolia Warbler--1 beautiful male
Black-throated Blue Warbler--1 female
Black-throated Green Warbler--1 singing
Common Yellowthroat--2
Northern Waterthrush--1 singing
Indigo Bunting--1
Baltimore Oriole--1
Orchard Oriole--1

Running the perimeter of Weinberg Park in the afternoon:

Great Egret--1
Northern Parula--1
Chestnut-sided Warbler--1
Magnolia Warbler--1
American Redstart--1
Common Yellowthroat--1
Indigo Bunting--2
Orchard Oriole--3
Matt Gray--1

Kayaking White's Cove:

Snowy Egret--1
Spotted Sandpiper--1

Have a great week,

Bill
