Jay Sheppard and I met with a civil engineer at the Oxbow Lake today who
was assessing the feasibility of building a observation platform that extends
out beyond the trees to the edge of the lake/wetlands. He's going to ask some
contractors he works with to come by later this week or next, to give us some
better information. Afterwards, we identified the following from the eastern
ridge:
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose
Trumpeter Swan #960
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary Sandpiper
Spotted Sandpiper
Semiplamated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Least Tern
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Red-eyed Vireo
Jay said there were a lot of shorebirds flying around the northwestern
shoreline, but they were too far away from our vantage point to explore
further even with the scope.
At home in Russett, I've had a Great-creasted Flycatcher trying to draw my
attention away from work all afternoon long.
