Been waiting for a more experienced birder from the Northern Virginia
Birding Club to post about the week end of May 18, but haven't seen anything
thus far, so here goes. Great week end, cold in the beginning, but then
warmed up. Bus trip on Assateague was productive (even saw the ponies).

Took a boat cruise on my own and I would highly recommend it! Their link is
http://chincoteaguecruises.com/. Very friendly and informative 7th
generation tour guide. Feel free to contact me off list for further details.

Following is a list of birds that I wrote down, I'm sure there were more
that I didn't see. The birds were all so new to me that I couldn't absorb it
all, but they were all life birds for me except Red Winged Blackbird:

Black Skimmer (the highlight for me - it was very cooperative and provided
great close ups with binocs skimming slowly)
Bob White
Gull Billed Tern
Wilson's Pharalope
Great Crested Flycatcher
Blue Grosbeak
Gadwall Duck
Willet
Ruddy Turnstone
Boat Tailed Grackle
Seaside Sparrow
Marsh Wren
Northern Harrier (in the distance)
Yellow Crowned Night Heron (this baby hung around the motel we stayed in
which was great)
Black Bellied Plover
Laughing Gull (in abundence)
Sooty Shearwater
Whimbrel
Red Winged Blackbird

Anyone else that was there please add to this.
