There was a flock of at least six (and possibly eight) Brown-headed
Nuthatchs in the pine grove along the lower end of Lloyd Bowen Road late
morning, Saturday (2 June). This currently seems to be the best place
in Calvert County for the species, despite the damage done to the grove
by a small fire some time over the past few months. I heard two birds
within a couple of minutes of getting out of my car, then they were
quiet for twenty minutes or so before the members of the loose flock
started crossing back and forth above the road.
