Folks
Last night I did a nightjar run around Cobb Neck in Charles County. I found eight Chucks along various roads like Boarman, Maiden Point, and Wicomico Beach Road. I did not find any on the south end of Cobb Neck, or the north end. They like the mixed pine/deciduous forests. If you are looking for this species close to Washington, you don't need to go to the eastern shore. No Whips were found on Cobb Neck.
On May 29 Gwen and I did a nightjar route in Nanjemoy and had ten Whips and one Chuck along Maryland Point, Sandy Point, and Holly Springs Rd.
Tonight should be good if you are thinking of looking for nightjars. I have miniroutes in the morning for the atlas so will pass tonight.
Good nightjaring to those that do get our.
