Some nice birding this morning on the Maryland side of Great
Falls National Park. Highlights included a pair of male
COMMON GOLDENEYES on the Potomac, GREAT EGRET, BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON (many), WARBLING VIREO (a pair), NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW (skimming for insects on the Potomac
with TREE SWALLOWS), PROTOTHONOTARY WARBLER (3 singing and
giving great looks), and ORCHARD ORIOLE (a male/female pair
feeding at least one juvenile in a nest).

Full eBird report:

Location: Great Falls Maryland
Observation date: 6/10/07
Notes: First time out birding for a while. Specifically
looking for Prothonotary; got one immediately! Overcast to
mostly cloudy, warm, light breeze. The goldeneyes were on
the Potomac. The Great Blue Herons and Black-crowned
Night-Herons were everywhere. May have seen a
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron (being harassed by an Eastern
Kingbird). Also saw White-tailed Deer and a Snapping
Turtle, and a swarm of unidentified pink & black bugs
(beetles?).
