Paul Pisano told me earlier today that he and Gary
Allport spotted a young Wild Turkey today at Poplar
Point, Southeast DC. Gary spotted it it and Paul said
the bird was "the size of a Red-shouldered Hawk" (if I
recall the phone conversation correctly).

Too bad the breeding bird atlas has ended ... I didn't
receive any reports of young turkeys and I know I
didn't see any during the survey. Heck, it was quite
a shock two years ago to actually see the male turkey
in DC. Nice going, Gary and Paul!

Poplar Point is bounded on the west by South Capitol
Street and its off ramp, on the north by Anacostia
Drive SE, on the south by Howard Drive SE and
Interstate 295, and on the east by the Park Police
station or headquarters. The birds were in the
abandoned "nursery" area next to South Capitol Street
and Howard Road.
