The second batch of cardinal chicks (2 fledglings) of the summer are out of the nest and
loudly begging for food from the bushes in our front yard. The first batch (again, 2
fledglings), were out of the nest in early May. The two broods were raised in two different
nests in our front hedge. We have a plethora of cardinals in our neighborhood - I haven't
been able to figure out how many breeding pairs there actually are.
How many broods do cardinals produce in a season? Are these chicks likely to all be from
the same breeding pair? Do they usually build a new nest for each brood?
All I can say is that between the cardinal chicks begging for food and the House Wrens
singing on territory, it sure is noisy around here...
