Folks

Gwen and I drove from Michigan this morning to look for a White Pelican in Charles County. I got a call from Bob Eppley yesterday that he saw a White Pelican on Lower Cedar Point. Lower Cedar Point is a sand spit that sticks out in the Potomac River at the end of Morgantown Rd. which is off of Rt. 257. Bob called again today around 5 PM to say the bird was still there. Gwen and I got to Lower Cedar Point around 6:30 PM, and I was able to get a number of adequate photos.

This is likely to first county record of White Pelican. The bird seemed to be an adult in near breeding plumage with a dusky cap, and the large breeding knob on the upper mandible. Cool!!!

The bird can be seen from the road at the bend at the river (if it stays around). Lower Cedar Point is private property and posted, so please don't trespass to see this bird closer. Take a scope if you go to look for it.

Thanks Bob for the county bird, but it was a nearly 700 miles to add this one to the list.

George
