I scanned the beaver pond/Race Rd. wetlands this
afternoon hoping for a random encounter with ducks
from the deep south...no luck with that.

However, there was lots of activity in the area,
including 4+ great blue herons, great egret, wood
ducks (3 females, one with 8 ducklings in tow), a pair
of black ducks, barn swallows and a very cooperative
male Prothonotary warbler. The warbler let me watch
him from a close distance until my lunch hour expired.

The best viewing spot is at the power line cut
adjacent to a Patapsco Valley State Park field (a
former horse farm now planted with new trees), about
1/2 mile south of Furnace Ave.
