Carol

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (RTHU) mostly cross the Gulf of Mexico each year in late March, and early April. Maybe you remember a few large storms associated with very high pressure fronts over the gulf then. Like Purple Martins (PUMA), many of the RTHU were killed in there crossing this year. Purple Martins are also down. The ones (RTHU & PUMA) that got here were later migrants, and there were allot fewer. Sorry for the bad news.

The population will have to rebuild. Feed the birds.

George

I keep having people ask me why not many Hummingbirds at their feeders this year. Have you noticed/heard anything about this?? My one little feeder is mostly getting Titmice/House finches since am not feeing much seed trying to discourage young grackles.

  thanks--carol
